tonight. you knew stewart would make a move. was it move you expected them to try? what was it like sitting there waiting? >> well, i was nervous about the 20 and the 14. i thought their cars were a little bit better than what we had. i want to thank sprint and the race fans. this is where everybody sitting in the stands and at home. budweiser, bag boy buggy, realty and everybody to put the car on the racetrack. good way to start off speed weeks. >> matt: what kind of a statement does it send to folks who were repeating the lame duck phrase this year? >> it's about winning races and politics and one thing but in the racetrack it's about making this car as fast as it will go and those guys, they don't care about anything but winning. wanting to do good. so he owe it to them. everybody at budweiser. we had to take their name off the race to win it. awesome day for us. >> matt: congratulations.

>> thank you. >> matt: win number three in the "sprint unlimited." >> chris: thank you. as kevin harvick said time going in richard childress racing i want to leave it better than i found it before he moves on. a lot to accomplish. but with michael waltrip, brad keselowski the guest analyst. you did good so far picking stewart and harvick. fatherhood treating kevin harvick very well and the aggressive driving. what did we learn about the generation 6 car tonight? >> we saw kevin harvick and tony stewart, guys that drive aggressively are rewarded. that is a key thing. we saw greg biffle made a great move for the lead at the end but kevin harvick drove more aggressive and made it work. that's what won him the race. >> michael: i like being part of the fox team. glad he has a job. >> chris: pretty good. >> michael: picks a whistle the first segment. picked the race winner. i agree with brad 100%. the guys that are aggressive made it happen. one thing i was disappointed at the end was people trying to figure out what to do. a new car. there is new challenges. so nobody really made a move. the first guy to move was logano who dove down from the

fourth and fifth spot. got third at the end. maybe if they moved sooner and everybody watching like brad and the guys in the race will say all right, maybe we got to make the move sooner. >> chris: remember tony stewart said it will be ten minutes and i'll figure things out and he did with that aggressive driving. welcome in guys from the booth. set things up nicely for the daytona 500. a week from sunday. >> mike: well, kevin harvick led 40 of 75 laps. but matt kenseth is known for his patience. but tonight, he tried everything to get to the front. he just couldn't get any help. >> darrell: no, but i am really happy with this racecar. there were so many doubts how this thing would race, with the little rear spoiler, would it be too loose, in could they run three wide? could they bump? or draft? we didn't see pushing and shoving but great race and we saw an exciting finish. kevin harvick, he loves this kind of race. his old car owner is happy about this, too. because it makes a statement to the rest of the guys. he may be leaving but we ain't done yet.

>> larry: he is leaving but new places knopped faces. joey logano now over at penske racing. matt kenseth at joe gibbs racing getting top five finishes. good way to start the new season with the new ride. >> mike: kevin harvick celebrates as we go to steve byrnes. >> steve: tony, what happened early in the race when there the big wreck broke loose? >> i got a big run on the 20. i went to the bottom. i thought i was cleared and the spotter did not clear me. i went on my own and i thought i had enough run to be clear of the third place guy. i'm pretty sure i clipped whoever was in third. so i, i made a move for the lead. and probably was anxious too early. but it was -- i was kind of stagnant where i was at and having fun moving forward and i felt racy. >> steve: thank you. >> chris: it was a split second decision by kevin harvick. kind of a double-block move to hold off tony stewart. and greg biffle. chevy edges ford in the "sprint unlimited." we'll have more from daytona in a moment.

so fast. thanks for joining us tonight. i'm laura evans >> i'm maureen umeh. we'll get to those stories but, first, let's take a look at the weather. is it snowing? we thought that system that we have been keeping a close eye on, we could have a few scattered showers and now it looks like we could have more. most precipitation to the east and to the south of us. we still have a little bit that's happening. we are keeping a very close eye on as well. that system is headed rate to the northeast. they're going to get hit once again with some pretty high numbers in terms of some of the snowfalls that they are expecting up the coast. we do have some advisories currently in effect. winter weather advisory in effect mainly along and west of the al allegheny front, southern delmarva including western maryland and part of

western virginia. we are talking anywhere from two inches of snowfall. the heaviest will be into sunday morning. we'll keep an eye closely on that. we have 32 in dulles, 33 degrees at bwi, thurgood marshall. actually, these are the high temperatures for today. and here is a look at the winds because winds are going to be a factor as we head into to. they're going to be dusty already, starting to pick anywhere from 17 to 29 miles per hour. scattered flurries starting to kick in probably a hill bit after midnight. more forecast coming up. >> thank you. gwen. a multi-vehicle accident pileup north of detroit. more than 40 vehicles involved.

the city of broken glass. more than 20,000 people working to clean the broken glass. friday's meteor explosion blewout windows in some 2400 buildings. >> i told students to move from the windows and not long after, that the meteor exploded. they were all fine. however, when they got back to their seat. a piece of glass flew above their head. >> the explosion was believed to have packed as much power as 20 hiroshima bomb. the meteor was much smaller than the asteroid that flew by later. while receipt pairs go on, some residents are heading tout a frozen lake to look for meteorite fragments. i noticed that one these may be seven big sparkles went down

pennsylvania to remember stephen alex rain. police say that the 22-year-old was shot by devon maurice green on tuesday at their offcampus home in college park. green wounded another roommate, 22-year-old neil oay before turning the gun on himself. green's family told police he had been suffering from mental illness for more than a year and was on medication. the death of a mentally disabled man who police were trying arrest was a homicide. the state medical examiner said that robert saylor died of asphyxia. en employee contacted police after saylor would not leave his seat. he later became medically distressed as he was escorted from the theater in handcuffs. the three deputies remain on leave. a little girl was gone for 24 hours but the family is still on edge after the

abduction. fox's seanette wilson has the latest. >> reporter: this is the face of the young woman who police believe was hidden. 19-year-old christina roguester is charged with kidnapping, rape and conspiracy among other charges this is very strong possibility that she is someone that was there >> reporter: her lawyer disagrees with the commissioner saying that the size of the person in the video compared to her. >> the person who went to that school had a much larger frame than my client. my client is very small, as you can see. thin. >> reporter: bus police say they have something else, an element of her dna found on the t-shirt the victim was wearing when she was found. and a private security camera in an alley behind the home the 19-year-old was taken from thursday by police shows a woman in muslim clothing with

with premeditated murder. news out of the vatican tonight where there is now a possibility that the conclave to elect the next pope might start earlier than march 15th. it requires a 15 to 20-day waiting period, according to the current rules. >> reporter: catholics from around the globe are waiting to find out hot next leader will be after the resignation of pope benedict xvi. the rule calls for a 15 to 20- day period before the cop clay begins. it's now possible that the meeting to choose the successor could start sooner than march 15th, the earliest day it could begin. >> the constitution also says this is to allow time for the arrival of all those who may need that time to arrive. however, if all cardinals had already arrived, there would be nobody to wait for. >> reporter: the start of the conclave is of particular importance because of the upcoming holy week that

includes palm sunday and easter. the new pontiff would have to be installed by march 17th to have a play. pope ben ticket is holdle holding some of his private audiences on saturday meeting with italian prime minister. the pope's twitter account with 1.5 million followers will go silent the day he retires. >> during the days after the 28th, no tweet will be sent because there is no pope to send it. and, so, when the new pope will be elected, we are going to present to him such an opportunity. >> reporter: the pope's last general audience in st. peter's square will be february 27th, the day before he steps down. some 35,000 people have already

>> reporter: as the nats head into the season, redictions were wildly off. the city counted on the stadium bringing in $25 million a year from tickets, parking, tickets and concessions but only brought in $12.2 million in fiscal 2012, despite finishing the league's best record. d.c. policy insure student believes that the stadium is not pulling its weight. >> having a team, baseball team in washington ace great, great thing but having a winning team is not the same as saying it's a winning financial bid. >> the city put a tax to pay for the lion's share for the stadium. the team's onliers chipped in only five million. critics call it corporate welfare for billionaire baseball onliers that does not benefit the welfare of the city. >> clearly, there is no doubt that we could use those

resources to pay for things that are important to the city. >> our lie brayrys and rec centers are not open for the most part on sunday because we don't have the money to pay for them bnchts by the time we pay them off, it will be up to a billion dollars. and the city is on the hook to pay for repairs. >> they depend on the team winning and also there should not be just developments in the neighborhood around the stadium but should be something that hems generate income for the entire city >> a community benefit fund created to appease' bone exhibit was supposed to pay for parks and projects directly benefiting the neighborhood. not a time was spent. city abolished the fund which had $23 million and rolled it into city coffers. >> we have a winning team.

that's a good time to look at that and reinstate. >> reporter: there is more than one way to measure. the stadium created hundreds of jobs and property values along the waterfront has soared. >> prior to the baseball stadium being there, nothing was happening. and once the baseball stadium arrived, everything began to happen. >> reporter: meanwhile, the surplus in taxes on business cost pay off the stadium debt 10 years early. the city plans to make millions more if the city plays home run baseball. >> it's a home run. we are talking about d.c. that's all in part because of the stadium and the team that's brought here. >> like it or not, the city invested in the stadium. nats fans and the city are hoping the hometown team comes through with another postseason payoff. >> let's go nats. >> sherry ly, fox 5 news. certainly anything but baseball weather. >>
